Fax to Herb Stovel from David Jacques Marked '24 March 1994'

This fax, which seems to be handwritten is a bit tough to read, due to the kind of paper Herb Stovel used for faxes; yet it seems as though this fax was providing some notes in response to a Memo sent the day before (23 March). These notes seem to be related to various aspects of the Corridor Landscape Study, such as:

  • Creative Power

  • Integrity of Plan

  • Integrity of Use, and

  • Vulnerability

The interesting thing about this document is that under ‘Vulnerability’, David had written ‘large scale development, e.g. Airports, Policy changes, eg. Agriculture, and subdivisions and small land-use changes’. In many ways one can say that these vulnerabilities are still a threat today as they were then, and there are examples of this in the Ottawa area.

In the second page, it goes on to discuss David’s agreement with Herb on the headings for the study, ‘Risk Environment, Legislative Framework, and Management Framework’, which David thinks can be made into one heading, ‘Available Tools’, or ‘Appropriate Tools’.

David then lists various examples of English Heritage gardens and areas in which they should find best practice example; and the final page is a small closing remark.
